Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to be blown away by the food I ate this week. As promised in my last post, this week we're getting cheesy with my favorite little sandwich shop. Everdine's Grilled Cheese in Naperville specializes in exactly that, grilled cheese.

If you've been paying attention to any of my food posts involving grilled cheese, I am a bit crazy when it comes to this beloved childhood sandwich. I'm even more obsessed with grilled cheese than Elmer Fudd, and that's saying a lot. The best part about Everdine's is that they make you relive that old childhood memory of having a home-cooked grilled cheese from mom every time you take a bite of their sandwiches. They range from plain old American cheese to double-decker sandwiches filled to the crust with meats, sauces and any toppings you can think of.

This week I decided to stray from the norm and embrace my Italian roots, ordering the "Al Pa-Cheeso." This sammie was filled with capicola, Boar’s Head ham, salami, Freddie’s giardiniera, provolone, swiss, and Havarti all layered on Texas toast. And boy oh boy, this sandwich did NOT disappoint! First things first, the outside was perfectly golden and buttery, my favorite. Next, the cheese was at that perfect consistency, firm enough to create a strong cheese pull but soft enough to just melt in your mouth. Although I am not typically a fan of a lot of meat on my grilled cheese, this kind of worked and I didn't hate it. But my favorite part was the giardiniera, it added the perfect amount of heat and just a little bit of tanginess to the grilled cheese.

To finish off this already perfect day, I took a stroll a couple blocks over to a very magical place: Cookie Dough Creations. If I could imagine what heaven looked like, it was this place. Not only can you get fresh baked cookies here, but you can also get raw cookie dough piled high on top of ice cream cones. But wait, it gets even better. They also serve ice cream here so you can add scoops of cookie dough to the top of the ice cream. This sounds like a stomach ache waiting to happen, but I couldn't be more excited. And now for one final things to make it EVEN BETTER, the back dining room is full of old arcade games to play while you eat!

I decided to get a small "brown sugar" cookie dough in a sugar cone. Brown sugar cookie dough is my favorite cookie dough of all time, and I've only ever had it homemade since it's not commonly made in stores. Could this place possible get any better?? The only words I have to describe it are "wow", everybody needs to go try this place. Although the consistency was a little stickier than I was expecting, that strong vanilla and brown sugar flavor really pulled it together. This "cookie dough cone" took me back to when I was a little kid licking the last bits of cookie dough off the mixing spoon when my mom wasn't looking.
This food adventure was by far my favorite one yet. Jam-packed with carbs and cheese, I couldn't think of a better way to spend my afternoon. All of the food was phenomenal even though eating all of the cookie dough gave me the worst stomach ache, it was totally worth it. If you're looking to check this place out both these places, they're located in downtown Naperville just off of Main street.
